more brain physiology today

February 11, 2009

and after we finish this up on Monday we’ll be doing some behavioral work that will tell us the speed of our neural impulses down the old axon… come prepared to participate.

Scholars,

Today is one of our hybrid Fridays. You should be using our class time to read your electronic text, take quizzes over the neuro, sensation, and perception modules, then reading some more once you see your weaknesses (if you have any ;-)

On Monday we’ll pick up again with major brain areas and what they do at a functional level, then move onto the cellular level as we look at neurons and neurotransmitters.

Wednesday should be a really fun active day, don’t miss it!

I will place everyone into groups of about 3 and you will take a second exam over the material. This will be closed book and closed note, but you will have three brains… that should be more than enough.

Remember that our goal is to learn the material. Take your time and learn from each other. You should also pay attention to test taking skills, notice how your peers frame questions and tackle the distractors to pick out the best answer.

Before class I will post our groups here. Check it and remember your number.

All you need to bring with you will be a pencil.

Scholars,

I believe everything is set up. You should be able to get started by 2:25 or so. It will appear in the assignments sections. You might need to refresh your browser if you log in earlier than that.

This is an open book / open note / closed peer exam. That means that after you take the exam, you should spend any extra-time learning by looking up the answers to questions you did not know. You will see similar questions again on the final exam.

If I see or hear of anyone trying to cheat I will file academic integrity charges and try my best to get you expelled from the university. Use the as a learning experience.

How is everyone doing?

January 22, 2009

We’ve been so busy I don’t feel we’ve much time to talk.

Is everyone reading and taking our quizzes on the modules?

Remember to keep up with our schedule here:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pKR5dBjqTI3evxULTpGwrWw&gid=1
.

we’ll also have some scholarly ladies come in and provide an opportunity for extra-credit in class today.

..tomorrow we are having our hybrid class time. You should use this time to read your textbook and practice using the tools on the website. Take some quizzes and see where you stand on the material.

Here is the link from my website that takes you to our tentative class schedule for the semester.

Other material like our syllabus is also linked up from my website here.

Intro Psych Scholars,

We’ll be going over how to log into your book’s site today. Bring your access codes with you and one lucky winner will get to sign-up in front of the class.

You can find the book site here: Myers in Modules 8e

Out class is titled, Intro Psych with prof_chuck, make sure you pick it and not last years course.

For our first test you should be reading the Introduction and Appendix A, followed by Modules 1, 2, 3, 18, 19, and 20. You have quizzes available for the six modules, but not for the introduction or appendix. Use them to get ready for the exam. They should be completed before our test on January 30th if they are to be of any use to your success.

Final Exam

December 8, 2008

I think I got the final set-up correctly. I had the system randomly select 5 questions from every module’s study guide for each of you. This means there is not really a way to cheat, not that anyone would do that. This is a lot of questions, but you’ll learn as you look it up and review it. I’ve given you three hours to take the exam, this is realistic for most schools. Our two hour slots are not long enough. Make sure you have the time to devote the full three hours, just in case you need it.

Feel free to join me and TJ for a late lunch during our exam time at Shenanigans during our exam time (assuming you’ve finished the exam.)
